China has launched two satellites to monitor gravitational waves

On Thursday morning, China successfully launched and launched two satellites into orbit to observe gravitational waves.

The two satellites, which are part of a mission to panoramicly monitor high-energy electromagnetic analogues of gravitational waves (GECAM), were launched from the Xichang Cosmodrome in Sichuan Province in southwest China using a Changzhen-11 launch vehicle at 04:14 Beijing time.

This flight of the Changzhen series launch vehicle became the 355th. Read also: Cargo Dragon delivered a module to the ISS to launch mini-satellites The purpose of the GECAM mission is to probe high-energy celestial phenomena: gravitational gamma-ray bursts, high-energy radiation of fast radio bursts, special gamma-ray bursts and magnetic bursts, as well as to study neutron stars, black holes and other compact objects and their fusion processes.

In addition, the GECAM mission will be used to detect high-energy radiation in space, such as solar flares, terrestrial gamma-ray bursts and electron beams, which will provide scientists with data for further scientific observations. The GECAM project is implemented by the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

The Changzheng-11 launch vehicle was developed by the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation.
